Crowns & You
If you should encounter serious tooth decay, there is one method that
can restore a badly damaged tooth. Dental crowns. You will need a
crown to simply "cover" a tooth and restore it to its normal
shape and size. Once in place, a crown makes your tooth stronger and
improves its appearance.
A crown covers and supports a tooth with a large filling. This is
necessary when there isn't enough natural tooth left. It can also
be used to attach a bridge, to protect a weaker tooth from breaking
or to restore a tooth that has already broken. Crowns are an excellent
way to cover teeth that are badly discolored or shaped unnaturally.
If your dentist does recommend a crown for you, it could be to correct
one of the above mentioned situations. Your dentist's main concern,
just as your own, is keeping your teeth healthy. Crowns can make the
difference between a damaged and healthy smile.
